Teachers at Don Bosco Rango TVET School have commended the Salesian Province of the African Great Lakes for the food support that they have received Earlier this week.
The food support which is being distributed by the Salesians of Don Bosco to the Salesian TVET Centres across Rwanda was donated by Handwerk Hilft, a Germany based Organization whose President Mr. Peter Böhm has committed to support all teachers during the whole time of COVID 19 lockdown.
In March, when Rwanda announced total Lockdown as part of the tangible measures to stop the spread of COVID 19 across the Rwandan territory, all schools and TVET Centres as well as High Learning Institutions and Universities have closed the doors following the above-mentioned reason on COVID 19 prevention.
Since that time, many Private schools as well as universities have suspended their employees’ contracts since they could not pay them due to the limited financial means.
The closure also affected Teachers in the Salesian Schools in Rwanda since the schools were unable to pay monthly salaries as they were all closed with no income recorded since then.
However, through the Planning and Development Office of AGL Province, more advocacy for the well-being of the teachers during the lockdown were conducted by the office.
Handwerk Hilft was one of the many benefactors who accepted to take all Don Bosco TVET Teachers in charge until the reopening of the Schools in September. However, many other donors also sent their support which enabled the Salesians of Don Bosco to purchase food stuff on the local market and kept distributing to all categories of the most affected including old ones, young people and those in middle age.
From Friday throughout This week, a batch of food stuff and some hygiene materials were sent to various communities including Don Bosco Rango Community which also distributed them to all teachers in the Rango TVET Centre.
On behalf of all Teachers, Twagirumukiza Jean de Dieu thanked Salesians of Don Bosco for all the support they provided since the beginning of the lockdown until now.
He said “After the Corona Virus outbreak, our job contracts were temporarily suspended since our students were not paying school fees so that the school could pay us. As teachers we were affected due to the salary suspension. However, we got support from the province of AGL. Really, we thank the Salesian community here in Rango and special thanks to the Province of AGL for supporting us during this time.”
Don Bosco Rango TVET School is located in the Southern Province of Rwanda in Huye District. It currently offers TVET Courses in various trades namely Masonry, Hairdressing, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Welding, Carpentry and Tailoring.
