The Don Bosco Palabek community will now benefit from green energy after installation of a new solar system with a capacity of 6.6kw.
The system’s battery type is OPzV, 2V/800AH and the Solar module type is polycrystalline, 24/330W.
This is aimed at promotion of green energy with the objective of ensuring environmental conservation and cutting down on fuel bills by the centre.
The installation began on 5TH to 8TH November 2020 led by a team of trainers from Don Bosco VTC Palabek, Don Bosco VTC Bombo and St. Joseph VTC Kamuli.
The installation team was joined by students of Don Bosco VTC Palabek from the solar department.
A similar system was already installed at Don Bosco VTC Bombo and in the coming days another system will be installed at St. Joseph VTC Kamuli.
This is in addition to solar skills training for the youth, capacity building for trainers and activities that promote environmental conservation through formation of green clubs within our TVET centres by the youth.
This is under the project titled solar skills and environmental education programme initiated by Jugend Eine Welt (JEW) with funding from the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADA).
The project is being implemented in three Don Bosco TVET centres in Uganda namely; St. Joseph Vocational Training Centre Kamuli, Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Bombo and Don Bosco Vocational Training Centre Palabek.
This is a four-year project from 2019 to 2022.
The overall objective of the project is Vocational training and learning for sustainable development as a contribution to inclusive, equitable and quality education (SDG4) and reliable and sustainable energy for all (SDG7). Thanks to our development partners for the financial and moral support.
