Kigali: PDO Director holds meeting with Handwerk Hilft Team to discuss Youth Education
Kigali: The Director of the Salesian Planning and Development Office, Brother Hubert Twagirayezu has held a fruitful virtual meeting with members of Handwerk Hilft, a German Non-profit Organization which has stayed behind the Salesians of Don Bosco in the African Great Lakes Province through various cooperation initiatives including the recent intervention in responding to the effects of COVID 19 among vulnerable communities in Rwanda.
The meeting considered a number of issues, including the impact of COVID 19 on the education of young people who have to attend Technical Education and Vocational Training in the Salesian TVET schools in Rwanda.
Normally, the Salesians help young people from low-income families to access quality education as a way to prepare them for a better future.
Following the outbreak of the COVID 19 epidemic in the region, youth education has faced serious consequences including the lack of basic necessities that enable young people to attend school.
When the issue comes to the notice, immediately, the Direction of the Planning and Development Office has since then been advocating for young people to find solutions to the challenges facing the youth.
Through their Facebook page, Handwerk Hilft said they had a great conversation with Brother Hubert to find solutions including finding Scholarship for the vulnerable young people.
Handwerk Hilft wrote “Collaboration in difficult times…
“Yesterday we conferred a long time with Father Hubert Twagirayezu. Kigali is in lockdown again. Our support is needed. The scholarships are more necessary than ever, as many families are financially enduring right now. Our food aid last year has relieved a lot of distress. We now hope lockdown won’t last long.
Now at the beginning of school year in Rwanda all schools are having trouble getting educational materials…. see where we can support…”
