RWANDA – Blessing of Mary Help of Christians Chapel at Don Bosco Kabgayi Post novitiate
From February 20 to 23rd, 2021, Father Provincial Pierre Célestin Ngoboka made the canonical visit to the post novitiate of Kabgayi. It was during this visit that the blessing of the Mary Help of Christians Chapel of the Don Bosco KABGAYI formation house took place.
Since June 2020, this chapel was under construction to be enlarged and embellished. The Mass on the 1st Sunday of Lent (February 21) was presided over by the Father Provincial and concelebrated by all the priests who are members of the scholasticate community.
In his address, Father Joseph Kabadugaritse, director of the post novitiate, after having cordially greeted the participants, invited them to thank God, the Provincial Father for advocacy to enlarge the chapel and finally everyone who has contributed in one way or another, to the work from the start to the end.
As for the Father Provincial, he explained under what circumstances the idea of the expansion of the chapel was conceived and implemented. “Really, the way we built this chapel is beyond our understanding”
He also explained why he wanted the blessing to take place on February 21, 2021 adding that Indeed, on February 21st, 2020, the Provincial was received by the head of the Missioni Don Bosco Turin to discuss the situation of refugees in Palabek in Uganda.
When the discussion was over, Father Provincial asked him for help in expanding the chapel of the Kabgayi scholasticate. The person in charge of the Procure agreed to grant him this help, and also offered him six statues of Don Bosco, one of which was given to the community of Kabgayi.
By blessing the expanded chapel, a year later, the Father Provincial saw in it “the hand of Providence”. After the final blessing, Father Provincial officially opened all the doors of the chapel. The participants moved outside, singing beautiful songs to Mary. Then, to end, the statue of Don Bosco was blessed, while the faithful chanted songs to Don Bosco.
